People Aren’t the Only Ones Hurt by the Darfur Crisis
I am sure you all know that the Darfur conflict is destroying the lives of millions of people. However, did you know that the conflict is also destroying the environment of the region?
A recent report published by the United Nations Environment Program has revealed the ongoing destruction of Darfur’s forests and farmlands. The region has seen a two to three times increase in demand for wood since 2003 – in large part due to the construction of accommodations for peacekeeping staff and internally displaced persons.
