Sudan Says Darfur Conflict in “Final Stages”

According to the adviser to Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir, the Darfur conflict is almost over

The way I see the conflict, I see that it is in its final stages, I see peace coming…It’s not exactly and strictly around the corner but I can see it.

Is there credibility to the adviser’s statement or is it simply a PR move by Sudan?

Regardless, even when the conflict is “over”, the obstacles facing the people of Darfur impacted by the genocide will remain. The process of reconciliation will be long and wrought with physical and emotional scars stemming from the atrocities which have taken place. A lack of resources complicates matters even further.

When the conflict ends, the real struggle begins with those in Darfur working to get their lives back.
