Hi everyone,

I am in my mid-fifties, yet I still recall vividly the pleasure I felt as a five-year-old with a pack of candy cigarettes. What was completely normal at the time would now be seen by many as an insidious attempt by a destructive industry to reach the most vulnerable, indoctrinating them to become future smokers.

Similar to “Big Tobacco” tactics, we know now not to trust the fossil fuel industry to tell us the truth about climate change research conducted decades ago – yet — why have we not exercised the same scrutiny toward the meat, dairy and egg industries? Furthermore, do we trust corporate entities like Monsanto, DuPont, Ford Motor and others to support the common good when they exercise their influence on school curricula? How have we managed to not notice the many schools where animals are raised for profit and slaughter? Is this the best way to support healthy child and adolescent development? Or, today’s candy cigarette?
