Today’s candy cigarette? | April 27, 2017, Socially Accepted Practices at CSUF
“No society can understand itself without looking at its shadow side.”
― Gabor Maté, In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction
Hi everyone,
I am in my mid-fifties, yet I still recall vividly the pleasure I felt as a five-year-old with a pack of candy cigarettes. What was completely normal at the time would now be seen by many as an insidious attempt by a destructive industry to reach the most vulnerable, indoctrinating them to become future smokers.
Similar to “Big Tobacco” tactics, we know now not to trust the fossil fuel industry to tell us the truth about climate change research conducted decades ago – yet — why have we not exercised the same scrutiny toward the meat, dairy and egg industries? Furthermore, do we trust corporate entities like Monsanto, DuPont, Ford Motor and others to support the common good when they exercise their influence on school curricula? How have we managed to not notice the many schools where animals are raised for profit and slaughter? Is this the best way to support healthy child and adolescent development? Or, today’s candy cigarette?
Please join us on April 27, 6:30pm – 8:30pm for Socially Accepted Practices & Traumatic Impact on Adolescents’ Development (with special guest Gene Baur) at Cal State University Fullerton. Admission is free. Space is limited. Please use above link to register.
BTW: if you missed out on being with us this past Wednesday evening at Soka PAC, you are in luck!
