Expanding the Circle of Compassion

Toward a More Peaceful World – early registration ends this Friday December 19

Hi everyone,

It’s mid-December – holiday season. This time of year brings such a mixture of experiences. While some find it a favorite time – relishing in get-togethers and cherished traditions – others feel weighed down by less than ideal relational dynamics and the added stress of holiday frenzy. Many experience not one or the other – but all of the above.

On a good day we can find our natural rhythm that takes us back and forth through the mixed experiences, noting the difficulties, yet, remembering what’s enjoyable, aware of what is less than ideal, yet deeply grateful for what we have. And we have a sense that somehow everything is going to be just fine.

Then there’s the news, global and local, that doesn’t take a break just because it’s ‘The Holidays’.

How do we keep our pulsating rhythm of healthy aliveness and seasonal holiday cheer going amidst the release of torture reports, police shootings deemed unjust, catastrophic climate change predictions, economic inequality, petty politics, and countless areas of the world where genocide and mass atrocities just go on, and on, and on… ?

How do we maintain our own well-being when we live in a world where so much around us seems misguided, toxic, destructive and lacking in humanity?

How do we finesse the rhythm of alternating between inner – outer without ‘outer’ either utterly overwhelming us, or managing it by just completely tuning it out?

We know it’s taking a toll on us when we feel anxious or irritable, can’t take a deep breath, have racing thoughts, trouble sleeping, muscles feel tight, tense or painful, and when the joy of living feels far away, replaced by merely coping, just getting through the day, and going through the motions. For some — it’s even worse…

So, even if we do admit that something feels a little bit “off” – what can be done about it? After all — isn’t this just how life is?

This is where I want to suggest to you that you come and find out by joining us January 17-18 for Toward a More Peaceful World. It is well-timed –  right after the holidays – a great way to start the New Year. This event will be well-balanced between inner and outer, providing a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of how to keep yourself well, while simultaneously learning to recognize the commonly ignored trauma-based aspects at the root of many of our most troubling social ills.
